On June 6, 2011 the Big Ten announced the
Big Ten Football championship will be held in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium 2012-2015. Indianapolis was already selected to host the inaugural championship on December 3, 2011 at Lucas Oil. This comes as a big win for the city as we will begin trading the Big Ten Men's and Women's Basketball Championships with Chicago. The games will take place in Chicago in 2013 and 2015.

2011 marks the inaugural race Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon & 5K. The start line is on the north side of Monument Circle, just one half block away from our downtown Indy hotel. The race then heads north on Meridian, west on Michigan to tour the IUPUI campus, east back to downtown and then south around Monument Circle. The course continues north on Pennsylvania Street, east on 38th past Indiana State Fairgrounds and south on Fall Creek Parkway. Connecting with Delaware Street, runners will head south with a quick jaunt through the historic Lockerbie neighborhood passing some great Indy landmarks and then finish up on Market Street at the Indianapolis City Market.
Phew! I'm tired just typing all of that!

With a rich history of rewarding achievements in education, the Circle City Classic is set to begin on September 17th in Indianapolis and culminate with the collegiate football game between Kentucky State University and Albany State University on October 1st.
More than just a football game, the Circle City Classic collaboration between the Indiana Sports Corporation and Indiana Black Expo works all year long to providing funding assistance for worthy students by granting college scholarships to pursue their dreams.
The first event will be the volunteer brunch on Saturday, September 17, and a week later, the Miss Circle City will be crowned in a ceremony on Sunday, September 25th. The party really gets started on Friday, September 30th with a pep rally, college recruitment fair, golf outing, musical and comedy jam. On October 1st, the tailgating begins followed by a parade and the 28th Annual Circle City Classic football game. Not to be missed that same day is the Battle of the Bands show and Fall Fest. Indianapolis International Film Festival is coming up next month! It begins July 14 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, located about four miles north of our downtown Indy hotel. Over the weekend, Kirk Stelsel and wife Laura stayed at our Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown. They planned a "staycation" in downtown Indy for Kirk to blog about on Doing Indy's blog. The happy couple spent Saturday night with us, had dinner at Mesh on Mass Ave and then went to an Indianapolis Indians game at Victory Field.
Kirk and Laura were married on April 24, 2010. We were one of their selected Indianapolis wedding hotels for their guests to stay while in town for their nuptials. It was good to have them back here with us just over a month after they celebrated their one year anniversary.
Kirk is posting three installments on the Doing Indy blog. The first is about our downtown Indy hotel and their experience here. The second will be about dinner at Mesh while the third is reserved for the Indians game. It's official! The
Indianapolis Farmers' Market is open! Wednesday, May 4 marked the first week of the Summer season! This downtown Indianapolis institution takes place every Wednesday May through October.
I walked from our downtown Indy hotel two weeks ago to check it out for the first time. (Is it sad I've lived here all these years without ever having visited this wonderful market?) The Farmers Market is located on Market Street between Pennsylvania and Delaware Streets just one block from the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown and in front of the

It's May. The weather hasn't been the best so far this spring. It's been cold, rainy, stormy, rainy, cloudy, rainy, wet and rainy. With the nicer (hopefully) weather coming up this weekend, I'm really looking forward to getting on my bicycle and riding around town. I just moved downtown about two miles away from work and love to ride around downtown and to my downtown Indy hotel.
Downtown Indianapolis is such a bike-able area! We have the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, the Central Canal Towpath and hookup to the Monon Trail. See my post from last April about Indy being named a top 10 bike-friendly city! There is so much to see and do in downtown Indy and traveling by bicycle is a quick, healthy and environmentally friendly way to get around.
May 20th this year celebrates the Indianapolis Bike To Work Day. Residents from all over the city will leave their car at home and put on their helmets for a ride. Even those who live outside of downtown and usually commute can put their bike on the bus and ride to a closer spot before pedaling. As an employee of our green hotel Indianapolis, I'll definitely be participating on my new single-speed cruiser. I've never been able to participate before, having lived 30 miles away from downtown.
There will be plenty of bicycle parking on Monument Circle, just 1/2 block from the Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown. The festivities kick off at 6:30am with group bike trains from various points throughout Indy. Monument Circle opens to bikers at 7am, a speech by the mayor and others will take place just before 8am and there will be food and vendors on the Circle all day. Lunch rides on the Cultural Trail will happen at noon. Finally, at 3:30pm, the Tomlinson Tap Room will begin their happy hour and will be serving fresh, local beer. Tomlinson Tap Room is located just one block from our three star hotel downtown Indianapolis inside the City Market.
