The free event kicks off with live entertainment and Santa’s very own workshop complete with candy treats, toy soldiers, elves, and of course, plenty of toys. Part of the show is televised and the lighting of the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument occurs at 7:45 p.m. Central Standard Time. One lucky child is chosen from the statewide coloring contest to help flip the light switch with the Indianapolis mayor and Santa Clause.

Lady Victory, the 38' tall bronze sculpture who has sat on top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument since 1893, returns to her spot overlooking the city, 284 feet above ground. Victory was removed in the spring time and split into four pieces so she could be restored to her original grandeur. Crews tried to place her atop the Monument last Tuesday through Friday but Mother Nature would not cooperate with unfavorable wind conditions.
The job isn't over yet. Victory, who is also known as Miss Indiana, still has to be finished, waxed and buffed. Not that kind of wax! She will be finished by crews working on scaffolding to finish her off with bronze finisher, patina and clear coat to restore her golden brown color before adding the wax protectant. It' just like having your car repainted!
Lady Victory was standing in the northwest quad of Monument Circle for four days before workers attempted putting her back up. This was the first time in 117 years people could get close to her. Traffic just around the Circle from our three star hotel downtown Indianapolis was backed up while residents and visitors stopped to take photos. None of mine turned out very well.

On June 6, 2011 the Big Ten announced the
Big Ten Football championship will be held in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium 2012-2015. Indianapolis was already selected to host the inaugural championship on December 3, 2011 at Lucas Oil. This comes as a big win for the city as we will begin trading the Big Ten Men's and Women's Basketball Championships with Chicago. The games will take place in Chicago in 2013 and 2015.

2011 marks the inaugural race Indianapolis Women's Half Marathon & 5K. The start line is on the north side of Monument Circle, just one half block away from our downtown Indy hotel. The race then heads north on Meridian, west on Michigan to tour the IUPUI campus, east back to downtown and then south around Monument Circle. The course continues north on Pennsylvania Street, east on 38th past Indiana State Fairgrounds and south on Fall Creek Parkway. Connecting with Delaware Street, runners will head south with a quick jaunt through the historic Lockerbie neighborhood passing some great Indy landmarks and then finish up on Market Street at the Indianapolis City Market.

With a rich history of rewarding achievements in education, the Circle City Classic is set to begin on September 17th in Indianapolis and culminate with the collegiate football game between Kentucky State University and Albany State University on October 1st.

Indiana residents and visitors will be thrilled to learn that the 6th Annual Indyfringe Festival promises to make August one show stopping spectacle. With 280 shows over a 10 day period, guests will meet diverse theatre artists creatively entertaining and educating the Indy masses.
The event will be hosted in 7 different theatres including Theatre on the Square Stage II, the Theatre on the Mainstage, The Phoenix, The Phoenix Mainstage, Comedy Spotz and the IndyFringe Theatre. All attendees need to do is pick a show and prepare to be entertained. All one hour shows perform back to back with 30 minute interval breaks to allow stage take down, setup and for guests to move to attend other stage shows.
