Gone are the days of the 75 cents an hour parking in downtown, Broad Ripple and Mass Ave. Though we've been quite lucky considering the price to park at a metered spot in these areas hasn't changed in three decades, it still puts a little sting at the thought of yet another price increase. ParkIndy has begun installation of the new parking meter caps.
No more parking for 75 cents an hour. No more free parking after 6pm. And no more free parking on Saturdays. On one hand it will be more convenient for those of us who don't carry cash to pay the meter with a debit or credit card. The deal is supposed to bring jobs to Indy. The city is supposed to benefit from this.
On the other hand, there is this article. I'll leave it up to you to decide.
Having worked at the Front Desk of our fine Hilton Garden Inn Indianapolis Downtown, I know what it's like to search for affordable parking downtown. I used to drive 30 miles to work before searching for a meter for 15 minutes. Then, working 3pm until 11pm, I would only have to pay $2.25 to park. For the same team members on the same shift today, it will cost them $6. Day shift will be $8.
Forget the garages near our downtown Indy hotel! If you want a monthly parking option! $90 to $160 for a non-reserved spot plus gas and food. It adds up. I understand the city's attraction to this deal...but I'm still waiting on someone to lower prices or offer personal value instead of increasing cost and decreasing value.

Summer in downtown Indianapolis is the time for festivals. Vintage Indiana is located in Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. Military Park is just five blocks from our three star hotel downtown Indianapolis. Most folks not involved in racing are familiar with the Indy 500, but those of you who are tried and true race fans, are also aware of the Brickyard 400 and no doubt, you might be headed to Indy this year to either participate in some form or another or come as a fan.
Since 1994, the Brickyard 400 is one of the annual races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for stock cars.

Motorsports Fans will be seen flocking to the Lucas Oil Stadium again on January 29 for the weekend’s Monster Jam. Organized by the Feld Motor Sports, this event features monster truck racing and freestyle driving competition.
Different trucks and vehicles compete in each Monster Jam event. This information is posted on the Monster Jam website as soon as the truck schedule is released to the public.
There are also other motor sports elements that fans should watch out for. These include the Quad Wars, Arena Truck Competition, and Thrill Acts. The events that usually last for two and a half hours entertain both adults and kids who are fascinated at what these trucks can do.
Speaking of children and adults, there are no children's ticket prices at Feld Motor Sports events. But kids under two years old can come in for free provided that they sit on their parent’s lap. Although the Indianapolis Colts were not able to make it to the division championships, we were still included as a wildcard playoff team in the American Football Conference for the 2010 NFL.
Before the team faced their final game of the 2010 season, the Colts held pep rallies in six elementary schools in Indianapolis. Blue, the team’s official mascot, also visited pre-selected elementary schools in Terre Haute and Anderson. These events were closed to the public and media permits had to be secured from the school administration.
On January 8, the Colts played against the New York Jets to get into the Divisional Playoffs. The Jets won with a score of 17-16 and will be playing against New England on January 16.
While that may be the last game for the Indianapolis Colts this season, football fans should not wait long as the 2011 NFL Draft is set for April 28-30. After that will be another line of NFL pre-season events for the Colts and the other NFL teams.
Of course, if you are a true NFL fan, then you are well aware that Indianapolis is hosting next year's Superbowl. So in other words, Indianapolis is the home for the 2012 Superbowl. Although originally an Irish holiday, Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many cities in the United States. In Indianapolis, just like in other cities in the US, the parade on March 17 is the highlight of the St. Patty’s Day celebration.
But 6 days before the parade, the Indy Sports Foundation has also lined up several Shamrock and green events in the city. The 20th Annual Shamrock Run and Walk will take place at 9am on March 12 at Monument Circle. This race is open to people of all ages and the participants are encouraged to wear green or Irish-inspired costumes.
Be on Ohio Street early on March 17 for the Greening of the Canal. At 6 am, city officials and guests pour green dye into the canal. This is followed by the Tent Party on Vermont Street at 10am. Aside from featuring an Irish band and Irish foods, the tent party also includes the traditional awarding of the Irish Citizen of the Year.
The 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be at 11:30 am, so you may just drop by the Tent Party before or after the parade.
To be able to participate in all the St. Patty’s Day events, be sure to be in downtown Indy early on March 17. Vintage Indiana is located in Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. Military Park is just five blocks from our three star hotel downtown Indianapolis. This particular festival takes place on Saturday, June 4, 2011 and features Indiana wineries from all over the state. Beginning May 1 you can purchase a ticket for only $22 which allows you to sample wine and food, listen to local musicians and check out artwork from 11am to 7pm. Now, the 
It's that time of year...when couples and lovers take the 14th of February to celebrate their love together. Things seem sweeter, colors seem brighter and the papers and commercials are filled with advertisements for candy, flowers and jewelry.
But 6 days before the parade, the Indy Sports Foundation has also lined up several Shamrock and green events in the city. The 20th Annual Shamrock Run and Walk will take place at 9am on March 12 at Monument Circle. This race is open to people of all ages and the participants are encouraged to wear green or Irish-inspired costumes.
